Biography

Candy Kuok started to learn dance at an early ages, and was primarily trained in ballet and then in modern dance. For the past few years, Candy has traveled to Paris, London, India, Vienna and New York for both short-term and long-term study trips, received trainings that incorporated various disciplines and contemporary dance techniques. With the experiences that have widened her vision and enriched her imagination, she seeks to develop her unique body language. During her stay in Paris, she was invited to join a performance by French dance company.

She is a core member of “Comuna de Pedra Cultural and Arts Association”, taking part in project curation, choreograph, performing and teaching; in recent years, Candy started to be more engaged in creative and choreographic process, collaborating artists of different media and talents. Her works have been presented in the Macao Fringe Festival, Macao Arts Festival, Macao International Juvenile Dance Festival and Oxwarehouse Theatre Season. In 2005, Candy joined with Cult Loc and formed "Soda City Experimental Workshop", with the attemps to explore together, the different possibilities for live and creative spaces. Major works include <The Reply of Mr. G>, <Encounter with Alice of 2004>, <2 girls 4 dialogues>, <Type M Syndrome>,<The Hundred Ghats Down The Ganges> Dance Theatre and the DIY Macao Cultural Heritage short video <Can't tell>.

Candy has finished the Macao Conservatory's 3-years Choreography Course. In 2004, the Macao SAR Government selected and recommended Candy as the second candidate for UNESCO's Fellowship Programme, under the Choreography and Dance Education area. In 2008, being selected for the participation of "Dance to New York - Choreographer Exchange Program" organized by the Macao Cultural Center, Candy received intensive training at Amy Marshall Dance Company in New York, and choreographed for a new dance piece about 'Macao' with the company's artist director- Amy Marshall.

Besides from doing performance and choreographic work for Comuna de Pedra, Candy works extensively with the company's menbers in arts education and promotional work; in additional, she is also a US registered yoga teacher (RYT200), with the mission to promoting the life changing benefits of Yoga.
